What Is An Order To Show Cause (OSC)?

|
An Order to Show Cause (OSC) is a court order requiring the person to whom it is directed to appear for a hearing at a specific time and place, to show cause why the relief sought by the applicant should not be granted. In family law proceedings, an OSC can be filed and served when a party is seeking temporary orders pending trial or final order. An order following a hearing on a party's OSC is effective until modified by the court, modified by the parties, or terminates by operation of law.
